“You will learn pretty quickly throughout the program that there will never
be enough hours in a day to accomplish all the things that you would
like to, so it becomes more and more important to make every minute
count. Take every opportunity to get involved, to strengthen
relationships and to make choices that move you towards your passion.
Once you define your priorities and start to take action, the rest
falls into place.”

Why did you choose Laurier for your MBA degree?
After attending an information session, Laurier’s program definitely stood out. The alternating weekend format, interest in global partnerships, Not For Profit Practicum and the Consulting Project opportunities all reflected the diverse exposure I was looking for in an MBA.

How did the Laurier MBA help your career?

Taking on the challenge of completing a part time MBA (while working full time), really helped to demonstrate my commitment to learning in the workplace. Within my first year in the program, I was promoted and given responsibility for a global program and I am now better able to articulate strategies and manage projects with insights into numerous stakeholders.

In 2009, I was awarded the Outstanding CHRP Achievement Award by the Human Resources Professional Association and was also selected as one of Ontario’s Top 30 Under 30 by the Ontario Hostelry Institute for her work heading up Fairmont’s global Leadership Development Program.

What opportunities has your MBA degree provided?
The MBA was a great opportunity to explore areas outside of my regular scope – I was able to take courses in Investment Management, Entrepreneurship and Mergers & Acquisitions  – subjects I would not have normally seen in the work place but areas that have practical application in a variety of settings.

What did you like most about your Laurier experience?
Definitely the people. I know everyone must say that but it is absolutely true. Each person brought such different strengths to the table that I was able to learn a lot from both faculty and teammates.

What’s next?
I believe that people should be passionate about what they do everyday and hope to one day lead the Human Resources initiatives of a dynamic and growing company.
