How did the Laurier MBA help your career?
Through its intensive, integrated program and co-op option, the Laurier MBA has provided me with sharper strategic thinking , enhanced managerial and organizational effectiveness, and relevant work experience to enter the workforce as a qualified professional. You graduate this program not only with a toolkit for solving complex business problems, but also a larger network of colleagues and friends.
What opportunities has your MBA degree provided?
The Laurier MBA has opened many doors of opportunity. With the flexibility in course selection, I was able to pursue self-directed study. In a cross-collaborative effort between universities, the self-directed course allowed me to work alongside engineering students and faculty at the University of Waterloo. I organized, managed and oversaw the execution of the team’s PR activities as we competed in a North American-wide eco-automotive competition called EcoCAR. This project became an outlet for maturing my leadership abilities and putting course concepts into action.
Further, with the co-op option, students have the opportunity to not only apply what they learn in the first four months of school, but also acquire real-world experience. My position at Microsoft enabled me to work with and learn from extremely talented professionals in the tech industry. The experience has helped me crystallize my career path and graduate with a stronger resume to effectively pursue a career in marketing.
What did you like most about your Laurier experience?
The intensity of the program really thickens your skin and builds your tolerance for heavy workload and demanding deadlines. I like that I’m walking out of the program with not only a head full of knowledge but feeling tougher and more resilient. The program also has very supportive, high-calibre faculty and students. As a result, the learning environment, despite its rigor, is extremely friendly, inclusive, and enjoyable.
What are your career aspirations?
I’m looking to combine my experience in research and project management with my passion for marketing and creativity. With that, I’m excited to pursue a career in marketing or brand management. Starting and owning a business is also a future, long-term goal.
