Applied Business Research Project

Applied Business Research Project

Apply your skills in a live organization.

The Applied Business Research Project is your opportunity to consult on a strategic management issue with a company of your choice. This project lets you apply your classroom learning to a live organizational problem. With the guidance of a faculty member, you work alongside your MBA team to develop and propose a solution, which is ultimately graded on real-world value to your client.

The Applied Business Research Project is a required two half-credit course. Each student devotes approximately five weeks over the course of two terms analyzing a strategic management issue on behalf of a sponsoring organization. Throughout the project, students work closely with senior executives from the organization and present the final report to the organization.

This project provides the opportunity to develop skills in consulting, project management, team-work, and research, in a dynamic and applied setting. It exposes experienced students to new industries and management challenges, thereby broadening career prospects. The organization also benefits from a fresh look at a challenging issue.

Students participate in the selection of organizations, which have included such well-known companies as Dofasco Inc., AOL Canada Inc., RBC Financial Group, Sheridan Nurseries, and Pennzoil-Quaker State, along with entrepreneurial, government and not for profit organizations.
